Getting Grungy

Happy Sunday Everyone!  It's a balmy 51 degrees in Anchorage today!  Spring is definitely here.  I can finally see some of my grass in the backyard.  Still lots of snow in the shade.

Here is my latest lo using the March kit from Scraps of Darkness March Kit "Boys Will Be Boys"  I am featuring my son Patrick in this lo, isn't he a handsome young man??  AND, he is single!!!

I wanted to create a masculine, Clean and Simple (CAS), layout with the focus on texture and not embellishments and since I made the layout for him, and that's what he likes!!!  The "Chesterville" papers from Blue Fern Studios (BFS) that come in the Main Kit are just the ticket for this type of layout.  I used 2 sheets for the background and added some leftover pieces from from Kaisercraft's "Junkyard" collection in a previous kit.  This rust color is Pat's favorite.  I used black modeling paste and a stencil from Dylusions to create a cool textured arrangement around the photo.  Using black on a background can be a little scary, it doesn't come off very well if you don't like it.  I did some paint splatters in black and Prima's "Gilded" Bloom spray.

I got a new honeycomb die from Memory Box that I thought would work really well to add more texture.  I used the Bo Bunny paper in the Coordinating Paper Add On.  It gives just enough color.  Love that die, and think I will probably be using it more on future layouts.

Pat is a Mechanical Engineer, so the chipboard gears and cogs are the perfect embellishment.  I have been to trying different ways to create a rusted effect, so I used the Rust Paste from Prima.  Wow!!  So cool!!!  I used it on all the chipboard, which came in previous kits, as well as my stash.

All of the sentiments, but the title, are diecuts from previous kits that I have been saving for the perfect layout.  That's the beauty of subscribing to our kits, you always have lots of leftovers to use on future projects.  You should see my stash of goodies!

Finally, I used a 2Crafty chipboard for my title.  I embossed it with white powder to add a finishing touch.

Even though there are no flowers or many layers, I like this layout focused on texture.  To me, it symbolizes all the variations of life!  I hope you like it will visit me again real soon.
