October Scraps of Darkness "Dance Macabre"

I love October!!!!!  Next to December, it is my favorite month.  Scraps of Darkness (SOD) is famous for having a fabulous October kit.  This year it is full of papers collections from Graphic 45 "Rare Oddities", Echo Park's "Hocus Pocus", with a few Authentic "Moonlit" included.  Heaven!!!!!

My first layout (lo) is of a photo that I took 3 years ago and have been waiting for the perfect papers.  I wanted a theme that says OCTOBER to include Halloween, Fall, pumpkins, orange, black and gold.  I think I got it!

I started by layering my background papers all from the kit.  I distressed the edges, but I didn't ink them this time.  I used some modeling paste and the Tim Holtz stencil "Gothic", which I purchased at Reneabouquet from her website.

Once the paste was dry I applied the Faber-Castell Gelatos "Gold Champagne" included in an older kit add on.  I sprayed some water on the gelato and rubbed it around with my fingers to get a nice shimmer and color.  Next I applied Prima's Color Bloom "Gilded" which is a light tangerine color and blended it with the gold.  Once that dried (with the help of my handy heat gun), I applied some splatters in the same paints.  I mixed some water with the gelatos on my mat to get my little gold splats.  When the splatters were dry I did some stamping around the lo.

There is some beautiful mocha-colored lace included in the Elements Add On that I glued to the left side of the lo.  I created the black filigree frame using some doilies I bought at a craft store some time ago.

I created the mat for my photo by using the Graphic 45 "Journaling and Ephemera Cards" that are included in the Elements Add On.

The chipboard I used is from 2 Crafty.  I applied gesso and hand painted it with the new Blue Fern Imagine Ink in "Leaf" (it came from a Scraps of Elegance color add on that is sold out).  Then I applied Ranger's Distress Crackle Paint in "Clear Rock Candy" to get a little texture on the leaves.

I used some wheat shafts from the craft store.  There are some beautiful velvet hydrangea flower petals from Petaloo which is in the floral Add On that I sprinkled around the chipboard and on the corners of the frame.

There is also an adorable tag that I used in the far top corner of the photo mat.  It came from the chipboard collection from Graphic 45 included in the main kit.

I really tried to use less on this lo than normal, which is really hard for me.  I hope that you enjoyed it!  Join in the fun at the following and to purchase kits use the web site below.

That's it for me this week.  Have a glorious week, and get out and enjoy!  Mother Nature is really showing off right now.
