Autumn Layout for Scraps of Darkness November Kit

Did I say Brrrrr in my last blog?  Phew, it’s 10 degrees F outside right now.  We got one heck of a Polar blast in the last 24 hours.  You are probably thinking…”what’s wrong with her, isn’t it always cold in Alaska?”  Well, quick frankly, it isn’t.  It’s one of the best kept secrets.  Anchorage has pretty mild winters.  We may get 2 – 3 weeks of really cold weather (-10 to -20 degrees F), but for the most part we are usually warmer than they are in the Lower 48 states.  Our average is around 25 degrees F.

Here is my 4th layout (lo) for the November Scraps of Darkness (SOD) “Amy’s Amazing Autumn Kit”.  The photo was taken last year at the Fall Festival of my 2 grandsons.  Seems like I have done a series on that little fun trip this month, I just love the photos so much.

I started by cutting the center background from the Simple Stories paper.  The Bo Bunny papers on the sides where cut after I fussy cut some leaves from the center to use along the inside edges.

I prepped the paper with gel medium, then stenciled a grid pattern to the background.  Once that dried I stamped around where the images would go. I took the fussy cut leaves and rubbed Stickles over them for a little shine.  Then I glued them down along each edge to make it look like the center was blending with the outer edges.

I used a leftover strip (green/white) check, ticket stickers, and pumpkin colored paper which I punched on the left side under the photo mat.  I matted the photo 2 times with Bo Bunny papers that just matched perfectly with the photo.  The horizontal strip of gold paper was another scrap from the kit that I punched on each side.  I used another sticker from the Main Kit on top of it.

I used two chipboard pieces from my stash;  the wreath and flourish at the bottom.  I used the acrylic paint included in the Color Add-on, for the wreath.  I used the Lindy’s Stamp Gang embossing powder (which I got in last month’s Scraps of Elegance kit) on the flourish.  On the chipboard little leaves I used Tim Holtz’s Distress Crackle Paint “Spiced Marmalade” that I got in a really old SOD kit.  It really gave the leaves a cool veined effect, just like real leaves.  I also inked around the leaves to give some dimension.  I also sprinkled little gold micro beads which I got from Reneabouquets on the leaves and at various places around the lo.

I used a sweet burlap sunflower and hydrangea petals which were in the Floral Add-on in the little cluster at the bottom of the photo.

And last, I fussy cut a butterfly from one of the Bo Bunny papers embellishing with black Stickles around the edges.

Can you tell how much fun I am having with this kit?  Everything is so bright and colorful.  I hope you like my layout this week, and create your own Autumn beauty.  If you are interested in ordering our kits:
