Scraps of Darkness December Kit

It sure is beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!  I finally got my house decorated yesterday; 2 trees, entry way vignette, stairwell garland and mantel garland.  All I have left to do is the dining room table.  It usually takes me about a week to do all that, but I was determined to do it in as little time as possible.  I’ll post some pictures later.

Today I have a layout (lo) to share of my two grandsons, Chase and Cameron.  The photo was taken in 2012, they were out sledding on a very cold winter day.  I’m calling this one “Snow Dudes” because they are trying to look so cool.

Of course, I am using the Scraps of Darkness December kit “Wilma’s Winter Wishes.  Wilma is one of our uber talented designers who lives in Switzerland.  The kit is filled with lots of Bo Bunny “Sleigh Ride” and “White Out” paper collections.

I started by ripping the top paper layer on both the top and bottom of the paper.  Did a lot of distressing a lot the edges, as I knew I was going to be adding some modeling paste along the edges to look like snow.

I used modeling paste with a Prima star stencil.  When the paste was still wet I sprinkled glitter on the stars to make them twinkle.  I got this idea from Di Garling, whom I adore so much.  I splattered some silver ink and watered down gesso to get the snow falling effect.  I rubbed on some gesso behind the photo, and then sprayed some Lindy’s “Afternoon Delight Denim” to add a little blue to the lo.  You can’t see it very well, but IRL it looks pretty cool.

I have a couple snowflake dies from Anna Griffin; one that is a panel and the other is a single large snowflake.  I used the panel with embossing and rubbed some Tim Holtz’s Distress Ink in “Gathered Twigs” and “Tea Dye” so that you could see the embossing on the snowflakes.  I cut one large snowflake to tuck behind the layers of the photo.  I placed two buttons from last year’s kit on the top of the snowflake panel.

I made a stacked layer of different papers from the kit, an old book page and some colored cardboard (from my stash).  The bottom layer is a piece of burlap.  The sentiment sticker is from last year’s kit, along with the cute snowman.

I used a corrugated star from my stash at the top left of the lo.  I covered it lightly with modeling paste and then used a sweet little flower in the center which came from an older kit.

I created a circle of jute to surround the photo, and covered it with modeling paste as well.

The little snowman collage in the bottom right of the photo includes flowers from the December Scraps of Elegance kit, with a little twine bow behind the snowman to give him texture.

I was going to add more goodies to the lo, but decided that it had enough.  I so hope that you like it and leave me a comment below.  If you are interested in the Scraps of Darkness kits you can purchase them at:

Thank you so much for stopping by, and Merry Christmas to everyone!!!
