Scraps of Darkness January Kit "Beloved"

Love is definitely in the air!!!  And, so is the snow for my friends and family caught up in the horrible snow storm this weekend.   I am praying that everyone is o.k. and will get through this safely.

Today I would like to share my second layout (lo) using the GORGEOUS Scraps of Darkness (SOD) January kit “Beloved”.  I have to be honest…this is not my fave lo, and I almost trashed it a couple of times, but deadlines will make you think twice.  Besides, I never give up on a lo, not once!!!

The photos are of my daughter, Jennifer and her wonderful husband, Tim.  The photo was taken a couple years back at Mom and Dad’s house on Thanksgiving.  We were having lots of fun that evening!

I began by using Bo Bunny’s paper from the Coordinating Paper Add On for the background.  I heavily distressed the edges.  Now here is where I went a little (lot) overboard for me.  First I splattered 2-3 different colors of ink on the background and then sprayed with water.  I then stenciled around the lo using Tim Holtz’s stencil “Gothic”.  Then I started stamping around on the stenciling.  Oh my goodness, did it get busy.  I really hated it at that point.  So, I re-stenciled over the over design.  That helped tone down the stamping…..What to do, what to do….we’ll fix it later.

Included in the Creativity Add On was a paper pack from Santoro.  I used several sheets to create a collage of paper to use as the mats for my photos.

I diecut two beautiful wreaths to tuck under the photo.  I also used the beautiful lace that was also included in the Creativity Add On.  Here is where I fixed my boo-boos from my stenciling and stamping.  I simply added another piece of lace to cover the worst re-stenciling of the design.

I diecut 3 sweet hearts using paper from the Santoro paper pack.  Then I added my embellishments.  I fussy cut some flowers from paper included in the kit, and used tons of flowers from the Floral Add-On and Main Kit.  The majority of flowers used came from these two sources.  I sprinkled different colored beads on the flowers to make them pop and sing!  I also used various little word phases from the G 45 Cardstock Stickers included in the Main Kit.  I finished up with two sweet butterflies created by Renea Harrison that came in a previous kit.

As I said earlier, this lo was a real challenge with lots of goofs, but I didn’t give up!!!  I did get it to a place that I felt was acceptable.  I hope you like it!!!
