My First Layout for 2016!!!

I really like the sound of 2016.  It’s such a pretty number when you see it in print!  Hello dear friends…I’m sharing my first layout for 2016.  I just couldn’t resist making one more from the Scraps of Darkness (SOD) December kit.  THIS KIT IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR SALE!!!

This lo features photos of my 2nd Grandson, Cameron taken about 2 years ago.  I was trying to get him to smile.  When I said open your eyes, he would close them…close your mouth, he would open it real wide….finally I got the final shot, plus one that obviously had the look of you are crazy Grandma!!  I was inspired by this amazing digital scrapper My Bear I found on  She makes the most beautiful los.

I started using the Bo Bunny collection “White Out” which was included in the Coordinating Paper Add On for my background paper.  I gessoed around the background where my photo mats would be placed.  I used a stencil from last year’s kit featuring snowflakes and used modeling paste to get the design.  I splattered a lot of watered down gesso to get a really snowy look. Then I used Tsukineko’s Brilliance “Galaxy Gold” pigment ink to stamp snowflakes around the center element.

I had some snowflake doilies that are intended for cake decorations with this gorgeous gold image.  It was so shining that when I took the pictures I kept getting a glare.  IRL they look awesome.

I built mats for all the photos using various layers from papers in the kit.  Funny how they got all covered up after working so hard to get them to look perfect.  LOL!  Such is the creative process.

I created several flower and berry clusters around the lo.  First I die cut several sprigs from a printed paper in my stash. Most of the flowers are from my stash, and definitely from older SOD/SOE kits.  I had these sweet white flowers with a touch of glitter on the petal which I inked in a light blue to tone down the white. I used gesso around the larger blue flowers.  The dark blue velvet hydrangea petals were included in the Floral Add for December’s kit.  I also used red berries from my stash.  Looking at the pictures after the fact, I should have dabbed them with gesso to mimic snow covering them.  Oh well, next time.

I used the Bo Bunny chipboard snowflakes from the Main Kit in various places.  I covered them with gesso first, then heat embossed them with Ranger’s gold embossing powder.

The title “Smile” seem so appropriate since I was trying so hard to get him to smile when I got these precious photos of him.  It came from my stash.  I used gold embossing on it as well.

The chevron bits came from my stash and I used gold embossing on them too.

We’ve had little winter up here this year.  It’s just like last year.  Warmer than normal, rain, freeze thaw, wind, etc.  How I miss my snow.  Winter is not over, but I have a bad feeling that El Nino has struck again.  I will never complain about the snow again.

It’s been a blast sharing my creative process with you today.  I consider this layout a “just because” and one where I wanted to try something different.  I’ve been told that I have a tendency to over embellish my los, but I have decided that is my form of art.  Sometimes it even works!
