Hello scrappy friends!! Hope your week is going well and that you are able to stay warm. Our temperatures are still pretty mild up here. Not a real Alaska winter!
I am sharing today my first layout using the Scraps of Darkness (SOD) February Kit “Heirloom”. I’ve always wanted to try to do more Vintage los, and this kit is perfect for those wonderful old pictures. It is filled with Blue Fern Studios’ (BFS) Timeless collection. What a joy they were to work with.
Here is a photo of my Mom and Dad at a studio in South Dakota wearing period clothing. Doesn’t my Dad look like the real General Lee? Mom and Dad never had a big, formal wedding. I know my Mom really wanted one, so I guess this photo is a depiction of her dreams.
I started by using the BFS paper for my background which was included in the Patterned Paper Add On and added white paint splatters. I used some modeling paste in pink with a Tim Holtz stencil. The paste came from a previous kit. I stamped around where I thought the photo would got using the BFS stamp which was included in the Creativity Add On.
I cut a doily using the popular Prima die, and cut it in half to use at the top and bottom of the photo. I then created the photo frame by using the new Anna Griffin dies. I stamped a flourish design at the top and bottom and then randomly stamped around the edges. I used clear crackle paste on the whole frame hoping to get an aged effect. On the inside of the frame I used the Tim Holtz “Industrious” stickers. I then used tiny black microbeads that came in a previous kit.
I created the title at the bottom of the picture using a chipboard from last month’s Scraps of Elegance kit, and a chipboard from a previous kit. I heat embossed the chipboard using two different colors; one from this month’s Color Add On and a pink from a previous kit. Love the effect.
I created flower clusters using the gorgeous Kaisercraft “Blooms” included in the Main Kit and flowers from previous kits. The sweet pink roses were a gift from my dear friend Renea Harrison. I also included some silver metal trinkets which came in older kits.
The leaf flourishes are chipboards from my stash. First I painted them with Tim Holtz’s Distress spray Stain in “Peeled Paint”. I covered the flourishes with crackle paste, then inked them to get the crackle to show through. I covered them with brass microbeads. At the top of the flourishes are these little pods that I covered with Nuvo “Crystal Drops”, in Antique Rose that was included in the Main Kit. It makes really cool dimensional pearls, etc.
Finally, I added various glitters and microbeads in various places around the layout. Yes, I spent a lot of time on this layout, but it was worth it!!!!
