"Heirloom" Design Team Layout From Scraps of Darkness

I’ve had such a productive weekend, some not as much as I would like, others pretty good.  Can’t believe I got my second layout using the Scraps of Darkness (SOD) February kit “Heirloom” done so quickly.  It was like everything fell into place.  That’s what usually happens when you have everything all together, which is what this kit offers.

I have scrapped an old photo of my Mother’s family, which included all of my Aunts, Grandma and Grandpa Oliver.  There were 2 other siblings a little girl and boy who died at early ages.  Everyone in the picture except one, the youngest in the front row, has passed away.  That’s my Aunt Georgiana.  My Mother is the little girl on the far right holding the puppy.  I believe the photo was taken in Harrah, Oklahoma around 1946, but I am not positive.

I started by creating my background using 2 papers both from the Patterned Paper Add On.  I distressed the edges of the bottom paper and punched the edges of the next one on top.  I wanted to make the embellishments show up more, so I coated the top paper with a watered down gesso.  I used a paper doily from my stash, inked around the edges and centered it on the paper.

I cut 2 mats from the Tim Holtz cardstock included in the Cardstock Add On.  I inked and distressed the edges and then sprayed water on them and wrinkled them up to get an edged looked.  I tucked in a very old page from a book and glued all the photo mats together.

I punched several sprigs from the new Tim Holtz Punch and placed them around the photo. Love that punch!!!

I created flower clusters using the gorgeous pink velvet dogwood and off white tiny velvet flowers included in the Floral Add On.  I tucked in some of Renea Harrison’s butterflies that were part of a previous Scraps of Elegance (SOE) kit.

Last I added a sweet chipboard at the top which came in an older SOE kit.  I printed out the title on my printer using clear sticker paper.  I also printed out the year and placed it in a metal bracket from my stash and glued it at the bottom of the photo.  I lightly stamped around the lo using the sweet stamp included in our Main Kit.  Et voila!  C’est fini!!
