Scraps of Darkness February Design Team Layout

Dear Friends!!  It looks like me may have an early spring, but I'm not counting on it yet.  Apparently the bears think so and are coming out of hibernation.  With next to no snow, they are very confused and starving.  Very dangerous time of the year to be out on a nature walk.

I am sharing with you today another layout using the Scraps of Darkness February Kit, Heirloom.  I have had so much fun with this kit, I can't seem to have enough time to really do it justice.  The photo is of my Mom.  I think she was about 15 years old, very shy back then.  She was a very strong Southern Baptist lady.

I started by ripping two sides of the top layer of paper from the Patterned Paper Add On.  Before I glued it down I die cut 3 doilies using a Prima die and cut them in half to tuck under the top layer.  Once that was complete I stamped on the edges of the layout.  Can you find the stamped image that got turned upside down???  Yep, it's at the bottom left.  I used the Blue Fern Studio Stamp that was included in our Creativity Add On.

The beautiful daggled chipboard I used are from this month's Scraps of Elegance Kit.  I first used gesso on all 3 pieces, then applied Lindy's Stamp Gang "Pink Ladies Pink" with a paintbrush.  I lightly rubbed distress ink with my fingers using a Prima Fluid Chalk in "Dark Bark" to give them an aged look.  I treated them all differently using pearls, flowers, microbeads, and rhinestones (included in the Creativity Add On).

I matted the photo and placed it on an angle.  I tucked in a beautiful chipboard that I got from Poland at the bottom of the photo. I created flowers at the bottom left side of the photo and tucked in a scrap clock.  I gussyed up the flowers with more microbeads.

I created a large flower cluster at the top center of the layout with various flowers in pink from other SOD kits, die cut the leaves and tucked them in, and finally adding 3 different colored microbeads on the flowers.

Last, but certainly not least, I applied butterflies which were included in past SOE kits created by our former DT member Renea Harrison.  I applied these over the top of butterflies already printed on the paper to give them a 3-dimensional effect.

Thank you so much for joining me to today.  I truly hope you will consider joining us at Scraps of Darkness or Scraps of Elegance for these fabulous kits.  You can find them at

Till next time....
