Design Team Scraps of Darkness Layout for February

Can't believe that another week has come and gone!  It was a pretty wild one!  I'm back today sharing my latest lo using the SOD February kit.  It's a photo of my Hubby, Kip.  I just love this photo!  I used a lot of mixed media techniques on this one.  More info to follow!

I started by ripping 2 different 7 Dots papers included in the Coordinating Add On.  I wanted to create the illusion of mountains.  I tucked in corrugated cardboard pieces, joint paper, and a Blue Fern Studio chipboard piece.  The BFS chipboard piece was coated with Ranger Black Archival Ink.

I stamped some mountains and trees (Tim Holtz) along the edges of some of the ripped edges.  After all we are Alaskans!!  LOL!

I stamped the top paper around the area of the photo mat.  I used black modeling paste and a Tim Holtz stencil to get a real grungy look.  I also splattered around the areas with white ink to tone down the black and intense black and to look like snow.

I created my focal part of the lo using tags included in the Elements Add On, paper from the Coordinating Paper Add On, a mailing envelope and chipboard.  Along the edge of one tag on the left, and the bottom mat I used zipper pieces that were gifted to me by my dear friend Karen Zueger-Brown.  It is bright yellow, but you can barely see it!.  I stamped the top corner of the envelope.  I used the Tim Holtz Industrious Stickers along the photo (included in the Main Kit).  I heat embossed the skeleton clocks with gold embossing powder (both from my stash).

Before I glued down the matted focal pieces I adhered black thread all around to add more texture.

Finally I knotted on both ends 3 pieces of twine which was included in a previous kit.  I stapled down the middle piece and glued the other 2.

Thanks so much for stopping in today.  I would love to hear from you, so leave a comment if you would like.  Kits are available from the Scraps of Darkness store at http://www.scrapsofdarkness.com

Until next time, hope you have an awesome week!
