Nostalgia Plus

Dear friends, I am so saddened by everything happening this week....Orlando was so tragic!!  Plus, I have been fighting bronchitis with antibiotics, codeine, the usual routine.  It's the allergic reaction to all the pollen which has been a bear this year.  I have never been one to sit still for any period of time....even when I am sick.  The only thing that makes me stop is after a surgery.  Coming up in the next few weeks I will be having some major oral surgery, which I am really dreading.  My mother lost all of her teeth in her 20's, and heredity has sown it's seeds.  I'm only losing my top ones....sniff....I have worked so hard to keep them, and so much pain.

Okay, on to the positive.  I just had to create another layout (lo) using the Scraps of Darkness May kit.  This lo features my brother 2 years younger than me and ME!  We are about 2 and 4 in these pictures.  My Grandma Oliver always made all our clothes, which I thankfully inherited the skill for.  The pics are taken at her house.  I remember so well all the furniture in the photos, and will always remember the beautiful family bible on the bottom shelf of the photo on the left.

As you can tell I had lots of fun embellishing this lo like crazy.  I just can't help myself.  Editing myself is not my strong suit.  But, it is MY art, so I like it.

I started by using one of the gorgeous Blue Fern Studio papers included in the Main Kit.  I cut if in half, flipped it over and used the other half for the bottom.  Cool huh!  I then stenciled using some modeling paste.  I lightly made some paint splatters around the focal center.  I used the BFS chipboard "Damask Flourish" included with the Main Kit.  I applied gesso, lightly rubbed it with blue chalk ink, then cut it in half.  I placed the pieces on each side of the middle seam.

Next I layered several pieces of BFS papers to make a photo mat.  I tucked in some tags, inked around a sweet doily and placed it in the center to form the base for my photos.

The wreath chipboard came from my stash.  First, I painted it with the Art Alchemy metallique paint in "Steampunk Copper".  I just love that paint, and it came in one of our previous kits.  Next, I used BFS embossing powder in "Verdant" green.  It was just a little too green for me, so I dry brushed some more of the paint on the top allowing some of the green to show through.  Once it was dry, I cut in in 2 pieces and placed them on the top and bottom corners of the paper layers.

I created several flower clusters around the lo.  All the flowers came from previous kits.  I have an amazing supply of these little jewels.

Lastly I added what I consider to be "frosting" around the lo.  I used some blue beads and Finnabar's Art Ingredients Glass Glitter in "Sterling" in little pockets to add that finishing touch.  I have a real thing about this technique now.  It's lots of work, but I think adds a nice touch.

That's it for me this week.  Remember you can subscribe to the Scraps of Darkness or Scraps of Elegance kits by visiting http://www.scrapsofdarkness.com/kits/?sort=alphaasc

Have a great week!
